Algarrobo (Prosopis alba)

The Algarroba (Prosopis alba), a hardwood grown in the Argentine Chaco, is considered one of the finest woods in the world because it is both durable and long lasting. The wood maintains its form with wear over time and is often used in the production of doors and windows, furniture and flooring, including parquet.

In the United States it is known as Mesquite (or Carob Tree). One interesting note is that the first pavement for the streets of San Antonio, Texas were made of blocks of algarrobo.
